I have spent most of my career on the business side of things.
Deals, financials, partnerships, strategy.
That is where I was trained and where I spent decades building.
I thought I understood how businesses worked.
Then I watched Ryan run jobs.
And I realized I had been missing an entire layer of how things actually function.
The field does not lie.
There is no spin on a job site. The work either holds or it does not. The person you trusted either showed up or they did not, and you find out fast because the consequences are immediate and visible.
Business on the office side can hide things for a long time. A bad strategy can look functional for quarters. A weak operator can survive in a structure that compensates for them.
Not on a job site.
Ryan taught me that clarity is not just a communication preference. It is a survival skill.
When something is unclear on a job, it costs money that day. Not next quarter. Not at the next review. That day.
I carry that into every conversation I have about how we build BuildLogIQ.
He also taught me something about trust that I thought I already understood.
On the business side, trust is built over time through meetings, follow-through, track record. Important, but slow and sometimes abstract.
On a job site, trust is established fast and tested constantly. You find out in the first week whether someone does what they say. And once it is broken, the job does not recover cleanly. You can finish it. You cannot fix it.
That taught me that trust is not just a value. It is an operational input. And when it is missing, everything costs more.
The last thing Ryan showed me is the one I think about most.
Decisions made early are cheap. Decisions deferred until the problem forces them are expensive.
I had read that in books.
Ryan showed me what it actually costs when you do not do it.
There is a difference between knowing something and watching it matter in real time.
Working alongside Ryan closed that gap for me.
And it made me a better builder, even from the business side.
