How much will it cost?
How long will it take?
When can you start?
Those are fair questions. But they usually are not the questions that tell you how the project is really going to go.
The better questions are things like:
How do you handle changes once the job starts?
How do you communicate if something unexpected comes up?
Who is responsible for documenting decisions?
What happens if there is confusion about scope?
How do you keep the job moving when there is a problem?
That is where a lot of projects either stay on track or start to go sideways.
A lot of issues in construction are not because someone cannot do the work. They come from assumptions, unclear communication, or decisions that were talked about but never properly documented.
A good contractor does more than build.
A good contractor helps lead the process, keeps communication clear, solves problems when they come up, and protects the relationship along the way.
Clients who ask better questions in the beginning usually make better decisions. And better decisions early on can save a lot of stress later.
